City-Wide Medical Affairs provides a number of services to support the relationship of London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care, London to the Professional Staff (physicians, dentists and midwives).
The Director of the department reports to senior medical leaders at each hospital and members of the Medical Affairs team have city-wide responsibility. The Medical Affairs team works closely with the Medical Leaders, Hospital Administrative Leaders and The University of Western Ontario (UWO) Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry to achieve its mandate.

Credentialing and Re-credentialing
We administer the credentialing and re-credentialing processes to facilitate the appointment and re-appointment of professional staff members and the delineation of procedural privileges for active, modified active, term and locum staff.
Discipline and Complaint Resolution
The MAC Chairs and IVP Medical Education & Medical Affairs should be advised of contentious issues regarding Professional Staff performance and related complaints.
Orientation
We continue to develop processes, tools and resources to support the corporate orientation of residents, medical leaders, professional staff and their secretaries.
Career Development and Planning (CDP)
Medical Affairs maintains the CDP process and coordinates the process for Department Chair/Chiefs on behalf of the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry and the Hospitals.
Remuneration
We administer most department and Professional Staff funding on behalf of the hospitals as well as Hospital On-Call Coverage (HOCC) funding and the Clinical Education Budget.

Strategic Influence
Members of the Medical Affairs Department stay up to date regarding hospital strategic initiatives that impact the practice of medicine and/or medical training within the hospitals and plays a facilitative role in ensuring that the impacts of change on the Professional Staff are understood and considered. Medical Affairs also ensures that medical leaders and physicians are represented in strategic initiatives and communicated with as appropriate.
Medical Education
Medical Affairs administers salaries and benefits for Residents and Fellows, ensures corporate requirements of the Professional Association of Interns and Residents of Ontario (PAIRO) contract are met and works in partnership with the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Postgraduate Education (PGE) office to provide orientation to residents.
