Salaries
In accordance with PAIRO guidelines, salaries are paid through the LHSC payroll system. All appropriate documentation must be submitted before you will be put on payroll and receive a salary. This will occur on orientation day, or individually, whichever is appropriate.
Payment is made every two weeks on alternate Fridays by direct deposit into your bank account. A pay stub will be issued and mailed to your home address. PAIRO dues are compulsory and are automatically deducted from your salary on a monthly basis. PAIRO dues are currently charged at 1.4%. Dues apply to regular salary as well as any On Call Stipends received. Salary classifications are determined by PAIRO and are highlighted on the PAIRO web site under salary classification.
Call Stipends
In accordance with PAIRO guidelines, residents are entitled to receive a call stipend amount for in-hospital call, home call and qualifying shifts as outlined below.
Home Call - $52.50 stipend paid for residents on call at home overnight
Converted call – This is a home call where the resident is in hospital for at least 4 hours, at least one of which must be after midnight and before 6 am. These are paid at $105.00. The 4 hours does not have to be continuous. For example: Resident on call from 17:00 to 08:00. Called in as follows: 19:00 to 20:00 = 1 hour, 21:30 to 23:00 = 1.5 hours, 01:00 to 03:00 = 2 hours for a total of 4.5 hours. As at least 1 hour is past midnight and before 6 am this shift would be “converted”.
In Hospital call - $105.00 stipend paid for residents who are confined to hospital while on call overnight. Qualifying shifts - $52.50 stipend paid. Where a resident is required to do in-hospital shift work (Emergency) and again at least 1 hour must be after midnight and before 6 am.
If you are on call while on an Elective you will need to EMAIL the dates, type of call (as above), service you were on and hours to callschedules@lhsc.on.ca. Please copy your program director as well as your supervisor at the other hospital. Medical Affairs is including these payments with the regular pay as outlined above. The schedule below will let you know when to expect payment of your on call stipends.
